“We are uniting two powerful entertainment brands, bringing together two world-class feature film franchises to establish a commanding position in the young adult market, strengthening our global distribution infrastructure and creating a scalable platform that will result in significant and accretive financial benefits to Lionsgate shareholders,” said Lionsgate Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer and Vice Chairman Michael Burns. ”Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger have built a remarkable organization, and we’re pleased to welcome Summit’s talented team to the Lionsgate family.”

Summit announces ‘Breaking Dawn, Part 1′ midnight release parties and special features as DVD pre-sales begin

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by Amy with 10 Comments.

Summit Entertainment announced that retailers around the country will be holding pre-release parties on the evening of Friday, February 10 in anticipation of the release of the two-disc Special Edition DVD and one-disc Special Edition Blu-ray of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 at midnight on Saturday, February 11.  Look for details on particpating stores coming soon to http://www.breakingdawn-themovie.com/. Pre-sales of the DVD and Blu-ray officially started today, January 3, and retailers including Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon are now taking orders.

The Special Features include a six-part “making-of” documentary, Edward and Bella wedding video,  two fast forward features that will take you to “your favorite” Edward and Jacob scenes, and audio commentary by director Bill Condon. No deleted/extended scenes or cast member audio commentary is listed to the dismay of fans who were hoping for additional wedding or honeymoon footage and more quips from Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

While the Special Features appear to be the same on every DVD and Blu-ray, some retailers are offering special packaging to entice fans.

Target's unique limited edition case includes an authentic prop flowers from the movie set encased in a collectible keepsake featuring a wedding portrait of Edward and Bella (DVD $34.99, Blu-ray $37.99).

Walmart is calling their version the Bella's Wedding Dress edition and includes a fabric poster featuring Bella and Edward at the wedding, music videos, and the opportunity to enter to win a trip to the 'Part 2' L.A. premiere and other prizes. (DVD $22.96, Blu-ray $26.96 online)

Will you pre-order online or will you wait to see if your local retailer will be hosting event? I’m waiting to see if any other stores offer different packaging, and for more information on the midnight release parties, including whether or not any cast members will be making appearances as they did for New Moon’s midnight DVD release.
