Posted on Mar 19, 2012 by Amy with 11 Comments.

For a while I’ve been thinking about writing a Twilight news week in review column that offers a quick rundown of the activities of the last week.  Let me know what you think.

Sunday, March 11

"Bella wannabes?" "Brides" lined up in London attempting to break a Guinness record.

In honor the U.K. release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1” on DVD, an HMV store in London attempted to achieve a Guiness Book World Record for the longest chain of brides in one particular location. No word yet on if the record was certified, but as you can see in the picture many women in white showed up.

Icy Kristen Stewart flanked by waxy Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson at Madame Tussauds in London.

That wasn’t the only bizarre U.K. promotion in conjunction with the release of “Breaking Dawn, Part 1.” Madame Tussaud’s London location, the home of wax versions of both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, displayed an ice sculpture of Kristen Stewart alongside her co-stars.

Elizabeth Reaser with Norbert Leo Butz in "How I Learned to Drive"

Elizabeth Reaser finished her acclaimed run as Lil Bit in the Off Broadway revival of “How I Learned to Drive.”

Monday, March 12

Robert Pattinson in "Bel Ami."

The long awaited “Bel Ami” starring Robert Pattinson finally gets a U.S. release date of June 8.

Peter Facinelli and his daughter, Luca, at "The Hunger Games" premiere.

“Twilight” meets “The Hunger Games” when Peter Facinelli escorted his oldest daughter, Luca, the world premiere of “The Hunger Games” in Los Angeles.

Tuesday, March 13

The morning began with British “Elle” tweeting that Kristen Stewart was doing a cover photo shoot for the magazine in Los Angeles that day.

The sad news came that Peter Facinelli and actress Jennie Garth were ending their marriage after 11 years.

Romanian coven member, Noel Fisher (Vladimir) celebrated his 28th birthday.

“Loosies,” produced, written and starring Peter Facinelli, was released on DVD.

“Young Adult,” featuring Elizabeth Reaser, was released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Wednesday, March 14

Several new “Snow White and the Huntsman” featurette videos were released and it was announced that a full new trailer for the movie starring Kristen Stewart will debut during NBC’s “The Voice” on Monday, March 19.

Thursday, March 15

Kellan Lutz, a.k.a. Emmett Cullen, celebrated his 27th birthday.

Saturday, March 17

SWATH director Rupert Sanders, Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart at WonderCon.

Kristen Stewart makes an unannounced appearance at WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. to promote “Snow White and the Huntsman.”  She appeared on a panel with the director, Rupert Sanders and her co-star, Charlize Theron. Read the full story at Page to Premiere.

Maggie Grace at WonderCon.

Maggie Grace, Irina in “Breaking Dawn,” also showed up at WonderCon to discuss her new movie, “Lockout.”

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” author and screenwriter, Seth Grahame-Smith, reveals at WonderCon that the book was inspired by the copies of “Twilight” and biographies of Abraham Lincoln that were in the front of every book store during his 2009 book tour for “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” Read the full story at Page to Premiere.

Kellan Lutz was surprised with a birthday cake at his Bloomingdale's appearance.

Kellan Lutz appeared at Bloomindales in Garden City, N.Y. to greet fans and promote his clothing line, Abbott + Main.

Review: “How I Learned to Drive” starring Elizabeth Reaser

Young Li'l Bit (Elizabeth Reaser) and Uncle Peck (Norbert Leo Butz) during a lesson in the car.

It’s rare that we get to see the movie actors and actresses of “The Twilight Saga” take to the stage.  I’ve been lucky enough to see several on the boards and I have cherished those performances.  Recently I had the opportunity to see Elizabeth Reaser (Esme Cullen), in the Off Broadway revival of the Pulitzer Prize winning drama, “How I Learned to Drive,” and I am happy that I was along for the lesson.

This dark play, that at times calls for laughs, tells the story of Li’l Bit (Reaser) and her inappropriate relationship with her aunt’s husband, her Uncle Peck (Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz).  Narrated by the adult Li’l Bit, the play takes us back, in non-chronological order, to events of her pre-teen and teenaged years, both innocent and sinister.  We see the dysfunction of her family that gives each other inappropriate nickname, and the pedophilic interactions her uncle has with her starting when she’s 11-years-old.  It continues until she’s 18 when she finally questioned what has happened between them, all the while using metaphors for driving to move from scene to scene.

Butz manages to make a character that by his nature is loathsome and manipulative into a character that at times is charming and likeable. You can understand why Li’l Bit is drawn to him, and can see how she was drawn into such a dangerous web.  He delivers his role with such ease, that while intentions are often clear to the audience, Li’l Bit usually takes a bit longer to catch up.

Reaser is riveting as Li’l Bit. She brilliantly brings to life the emotionally scarred adult looking back at her youth, who now finds freedom when she drives. Whether it’s her numbness as she remembers when things started to go wrong when she was 11, her struggle with body changing and the resulting taunting at school, or her discomfort when there are moments that she realizes that something is not right with what her Uncle is doing, she presents an emotional state and performance that enthrallingly matches the age she is playing perfectly.

“How I Learned to Drive,” is not a comfortable lesson to sit through as you would suspect about any play involving pedophilia, incest, and misogyny. The Second Stage Theatre production does an excellent job at exploring these issues and bringing to light the incredible damage they cause.

“How I Learned to Drive” by Paula Vogel and directed by Kate Whoriskey is playing at Second Stage Theatre, 305 W. 34the Street, New York through March 11. For more information and to purchase tickets visit http://2st.com.

In anticipation of previews of the new Off Broadway production of “How I Learned to Drive” starting on Tuesday, Playbill.com profiled the revival’s star Elizabeth Reaser.  In the interview, Elizabeth is quoted about the dubious way she learned to drive: “I started stealing my parents’ car and my friends’ parents’ cars in the middle of the night when I was ten, and we would just joyride,” she recalls. “I was such trouble. By the time I went to driver’s ed, I already knew what I was doing.”
