Kristen Stewart: “We [Originally] Got Rated R”

Posted on Oct 29, 2011 by Kimmy with 35 Comments.

Kristen Stewart has revealed that the sex scene she filmed with Robert Pattinson in Breaking Dawn – Part 1 was originally so explicit, it was rated R (the equivalent of a UK film rating 15). “It was so weird, it didn’t even feel like we were doing a Twilight film. I was like, ‘Bella! What are you doing? Wow! What is happening here?!’ “It was very surreal. We [originally] got rated R. They re-cut it.”

Woah! Except I’m sure the PG-13 version will be fantastic anyways. ;)

I wonder if they would be opposed to releasing an unrated uncut version on dvd. I don’t know though. I might prefer the PG 13 version actually. Sometimes less is more.

    • Katie says:

I agree with you…I think I’d like the PG13 version more. And not because I’m a prude lol.

    • Suzzanna says:

I heard on the radio that once the DVD comes out, there will be the R/unrated versoin.. So all can be happy with both worlds.

      • Jussie says:

I like that then it can be your choice if you watch it. As an older twilight fan Im torn I like the PG 13 but would also like it to be more as I viewed it when I read the books oh well I still cant wait for it to come out come on the 17th nov

  2. Brooke says:

We better get to see the uncut version somewhere!

  3. Kim says:

That’s too bad, lol I hope they do release an unrated Blu ray, that would be awesome. I understand why they wanted a PG13 rating for the film release, but they can make an unrated version DVD/Blu ray for those of us who would have been old enough to see it.

  4. Amanda Lynn says:

Yay! im 13 and i was afraid me and my friends wouldnt be allowed to see it in the movie theatre!!!

  5. Amanda says:

I’m hoping the full version will be an extra on the DVD release, lol!

  6. kins says:

ewwwwwwww, you actually want to see an uncut version? Why? The book didn’t even cover that part, so you can’t say it’s just being true to the book.

    • Amanda says:

As many people have stated before, these movies have never been fully true to the book. So what’s a little more sex?

    • Delilah says:

Exactly. Its totally alluded to in the novel, which made it all the more HOT imo. Less is more. It would be waaaay to awkward to just suddenly throw in some graphic sex scene…

    • Kay says:

haha i agree… you really want to watch rob and kristen basically have sex? … common now

  7. Kitty says:

I WOULD DIE BECAUSE I AM 13 YEARS OLD AND IF BREAKING DAWN WILL CATCH THE 15 MOVIE I WOULDN’T SEE IT !

  8. Dana says:

I hope both versions will come out on DVD because the movie has just as many adults watching the film as it does teens watching it……..

I thought our movie ticket was going to be a wedding invitation..lol Every time someone asks me what I have planned for next month I reply I have a very important wedding to attend…I can’t wait!!!

    • Kayla says:

I agree with you. There are so many adults who are Twilight fans. Can you imagine how immature they must feel walking into a PG13 movie, even if it’s for something they love? I think they might want to see something a little more mature. The only reason it was made PG13 rather than left R is because there are fans who are under 13 that have to be satisfied too. But I definitely agree with you. :)

      • Kim says:

Absolutely. It always feels so weird to me seeing one of these movies and being surrounded by kids. But the worst part is the screaming. It’s like being in a toy store or something.

        • Amanda says:

My mother and I wait a few weeks before seeing any of the Twilight films. And we usually go to the first showing sometime during the school week so we don’t have to deal with all the teeny bopper crying and screaming and squealing. I can’t even begin to imagine how bad it is during those midnight screenings. I’d be getting myself kicked out for picking fights with children who wouldn’t shut up, lol.

          • Kim says:

The midnight screenings are awful, but the worst was New Moon. When Jake and Bella had their almost kiss before the phone rang, there was a lot of screaming and some disappointed shouting, especially the kids right behind me. I screamed at them, “You knew that was going to happen!” They told me that was part of their fun, apparently. Well, I didn’t spend $10 to have you ruin MY time at the movies.

          • Kay says:

I completely agree. I always wait till at least a week after and then go during the day when all the younger ones are in school… Peaceful movie watching!

          • Kayla says:

I’m almost 16, but I get so annoyed by the screaming and giggling. I understand that it’s nice when Taylor Lautner takes his shirt off – don’t get me wrong – but I just want to watch the movie. I can’t sit down and see how well it fit my expectations when the younger girls are causing so many distractions. I would love to see Breaking Dawn at the midnight release, but I did that for New Moon and it was a pain because of all the immaturity.

  9. Kristin says:

If they don’t release the uncut version on the DVD, I will be pissed beyond belief. 12 year olds shouldn’t be watching this Twilight movie regardless of whether or not the sex scenes will be cut. We have been waiting for those sex scenes for YEARS! I have been waiting for 4 years for that! Summit is being absolutely ridiculous right now. They should NOT cut that. We deserve it!

    • Kim says:

I have to admit, I’m surprised by how many younger kids read and watch Twilight. Even if the sex isn’t graphic, it is said that Bella and Edward have sex all night long, every night until their daughter wakes up. I wouldn’t let my kids read the books until they were in their late teens.

      • Amanda says:

I agree. I honestly don’t think anyone under the age of 16 should be reading these books, let alone seeing the movies. I was well out of high school by the time Twilight was published. And even then I couldn’t understand why it had been marked as a ‘Young Adult’ book.

There’s a little girl I know who I used to babysit. She’s 10 now and guess what her mother is taking her to see? Yeah, Breaking Dawn. Personally, I think letting a child watch this is just wrong.

        • Kim says:

That’s something that drives me crazy, that so many young kids watch it. People think it’s for kids. It’s NOT appropriate for little kids. Too many parents these days don’t really pay attention to what their kids are reading or watching, they just assume that it’s ok because other kids are into it.

          • Kayla says:

I agree completely. I’m at the age where I’m mature enough to handle the mature content in the books and movies, but there are so many young girls who are reading the books and watching the movies. I do know a few girls younger than me who are family friends that weren’t allowed to read Breaking Dawn because of the honeymoon, but that’s just a few girls. The whole saga is better for older teens – it’s all lust. Also, younger readers can’t relate to a character who is in love, choosing between love and family, graduating from high school, etc.

  10. Kayla says:

I think they should release an uncut version, just to satisfy everyone who is asking for a look at the scene before it was re-edited. I don’t think it would hurt anything. If you weren’t looking to see anything more than what was allowed in the PG13 version then simply don’t buy the DVD containing the uncut footage. Either way, it’s the beginning of the end for the series movie-wise, so why not let us see what was cut out? Even if it causes a controversy. I think we can all agree that Breaking Dawn contains mature content, and if there are those who don’t want to subject themselves to that content, then they don’t have to. It’s disappointing that there should be a struggle for a PG13 rating just to entertain the fans who want to see a film that has mature content, with or without the sex scenes.
