Exclusive: Susanna White (“Nanny McPhee Returns”) is attached to direct the feature adaptation of “The Host,” author Stephenie Meyer’s follow-up to “The Twilight Saga.”

Nick Wechsler will produce the indie through his eponymous banner, along with Chockstone Pictures’ Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz.

Andrew Niccol (“The Truman Show”) wrote the sci-fi drama, which concerns a young woman whose body is inhabited by a benevolent alien soul after an invasion of Earth.

White made her directorial debut last year with the “Nanny McPhee” sequel, which grossed more than $93 million worldwide.

  5. kASS says:

I hope she doesn’t mess it up like Twilight was all messed up ! I want this book to be right and I want good actors.

  6. princessbee says:

    @kASS AGREED.

I liked the Host a lot… I mean, I loved Twilight, but the movies really made my fandom drop a little bit. which makes everyone question how big of a fan I am, blah blah blah. I never claimed to big a huge fan anyway.

but I really hope that the Host movie actually turns out good.

  7. frenchygirl07 says:

well sorry for the fans of it, but see I love twilight (books and movies), but i did not like the Host! I read it , and well no !!
    sorry
but maybe the movie will be good, i will see it!

  8. Jacq says:

I’m a little concerned because it’s going to be an indie film. Not that it bothers me, but people may expect something more major motion and start bashing. I think it will be great, even as an indie film.

    • Maddy says:

Indies are usually the best because they’re in it for the love of the craft, not for the money. That’s just what the Host needs

      • mariah says:

i dont like that it is an indie..this movie would need a lot of visual effects and im not sure the indie budget can cover it.

  9. gentri says:

AH! Possibly my favorite book! Can’t wait to hear more!!

  10. Chelsey says:

So a movie about melanie/wanda moping in a cell underground for than half a story.

I can’t see it transitioning well.

  11. Alexis says:

The director of Nanny McPhee as the director for the Host??? Hrmmm, a little skeptical about that one. I hope she can capture how beautiful the story really is, and make it look like a big cliche…. I’m nervous for this one.

  12. ms. black says:

This should be interesting. I’m glad that it’s going to be an indie film. That should downplay the Steph hype a little and maybe let the story shine through. I am worried about how it’s going to translate to film though. I really loved that book. So I’m hopeful.

  13. Thanks for posting this! I was a little leery about the director change at first, (Nanny McPhee…?) but Susanna White has an impressive (if short) TV resume with Generation Kill and Jane Eyre. Exciting!
