Twilight sucks ass!! Who the hell would want to look up to a teenage girl who got preganant? Nice message Stephanie Meyer!!! Twilight just copied soo many thing from Harry Potter! Sirius Black: Jacob Black, James Potter: James (the bad guy). Very original! and that girl from twilight lexicon has the stupidest points ever! An insufferable know it all?? Better than knowing everything than being a emo girl who wants to kill herself! Twilight Sucks, Harry Potter is awesome, get over it!
Are you serious? Black isn’t a terribly uncommon last name, nor is James a terribly uncommon first name. To suggest that SM copied these names from HP is ridiculous.
I still don’t get why people are trying to compare harry potter and twilight. I have actually never read the harry potter books and don’t get be wrong I do enjoy twilight. But there has yet to be a twilight movie that has completely blown me out of the water as it should. I think all three of the twilight movies really could have and should have been a lot better. I completely disagree with the woman about her argument points on twilight being well adapted into movies. The points she gave if you noticed were extremely vague story points such as “bella and edward relationship”,”bella & jacob” I mean..if that wasn’t in there it couldn’t be called Twilight in the first place right? Besides like I have read in other comments from previous posts is how Melissa Rosenburg tends to favor jacob. I have noticed that in the movies( imagining the point of view of someone who has not read a book) I would not understand bella’s choice to go with edward. Bella and Jacob seem to have a lot stronger connection in the movies than Bella’s character to Edward.
Hah. I feel like I need to read the books again to continue to appreciate this saga. Just my opinion.
Honestly, I think I could have argued for Hermione better than that guy did.
“An insufferable know-it-all?” RIIIGHHT. Because it is MUCH better to be a whiney, indecisive jerk!
What about the fact that Hermione is a hard worker? What about the fact that she has to constantly prove herself because of everyone else’s prejudice? What about the fact that despite people putting her down, she remains on top? What about the fact that Harry and Ron depend more on her than she depends on them?
Hermione has had more crap to deal with than Bella ever had. She is a strong character who takes initiative and has to fight for what she believes in.
Bella has had to choose between two hot guys. OH NOES! Never mind the life-threatening situations that come out of nowhere. She has her big vampire boyfriend and werewolf best friend to protect her.
Conclusion? Hermione is a better role model. She exemplifies a good person with understandable flaws. She handles issues with thought and brilliance. Plus, she kicks ***.
Alright, I’m done. I LOVE TWILIGHT! But don’t say that it is better than HP…cause I will prrotest.
I like both movies ‘kay? Like guys, both movies marked a generation it’s not fair to compare them, yes in some aspects Twilight is better than Harry Potter, but you had to admit that HP has also things Twilight would never have obviously, so I love them both. And for the movies adaptation Melissa Rosenberg screw Twilight, for me of course, and well Hp also gave me ups and downs but I liked Hp adaptation more than Twilight
from a very humble TWIHARD & MUGGLE (hpnerd can also be if you want to)
Although I usually hate it when people try to pit Harry Potter and Twilight against each other, I enjoyed this. Probably because this was a calm, (mostly) rational debate instead of hateful bashing that isn’t backed up by proof.
While the Twilight woman did make a lot of good points, I still think HP is better.
Although…I do think Edward would win in a fight against Harry. I don’t understand why SM said Harry would win. Yeah, he can attack from a distance, but since Edward runs so fast that he is “all but invisible with speed,” I would think that he would be able to rush Harry before he could even raise his wand…or at least dodge spells while he runs and then take Harry out.
While do people still feel the need to compare Harry Potter and Twilight.
Completely different story, completely different characters.
They do not coincide with each other what so ever.
I think most of them do. People try to make a rivalry where there isn’t one. And actually, I think most of the animosity comes from the HP side of things. It makes me sad, since I love both the series.
I agree. I love both series & it seriously grinds my gears when I encounter HP fans that dis Twilight. It’s like they’re totally different series with totally different plots and chracters.
I went to the Eclipse midnight premiere and it was so exciting and so alive! I also went to the HP Deathly Hallows midnight premiere and it was kind of boring and I just wasn’t as awake or excited as I was for Eclipse. Both were great, but the Twilight Saga is so much more lively!
I think the Potter guy was fighting an up hill battle because Lexicon was also a Potter fan. It helps to know what you’re fighting against. Also with the whole screen adaptations they’re is no way he could fight that battle since I’ve heard many die hard Potter fans argue that the films are not the best. I think us Twihards are blessed to have the films we do. I think Twilight did have a better argument than Potter not because I’m a fan of Twilight but because I’m a fan of debates.
With the Harry Potter series, the fans are made up of both males and females. Twilight fans are mostly females; yes there are some male fans but the majority is female. Most guys don’t want to read a romance novel about a girl who falls in love with a vampire. With Harry Potter, you get everything. You have the action, the drama, the romance, and you also have the funny moments. Both males and females can enjoy this series.
Both series have romance, but with Edward and Bella, their relationship is kind of disturbing. Edward is obsessed with Bella and watches her sleep. Bella is obsessed with Edward and when he leaves her she gets delusions where she sees Edward when she does something reckless, and gets addicted to these delusions. That is not a healthy relationship.
With the romance between Ron and Hermione, they start of as friends, then it gradually becomes something more. Their relationship is a normal one that everyone can relate too. Ron doesn’t watch Hermione sleep. Edward just sounds like a creepy stalker.
By the way, what kind of vampire sparkles? They have vampires in Harry Potter too, and they are the normal kind that actually HAVE fangs, unlike the Twilight vampires who have venom and sparkle. They sound more like fairies.
Harry Potter has a huge fan base. When the movies come out, so many fans dress up like their favorite characters, and at book signings there are literally blocks full of people waiting to get their book signed. So many people show up for each premiere, and so many fans go to King’s Cross Station to take pictures of Platforms 9 and 10. Because the fan base is so HUGE, Harry Potter now has its own theme park in Orlando, Florida. About a million people showed up for the grand opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Twilight won’t be getting its own theme park. You could go to Forks, Washington and visit their “Dazzled By Twilight” store and take tours of locations of places that resemble the places that are described in Meyer’s book, but that’s all you can do. With Harry Potter, fans have a THEME PARK where you can buy sweets from Honeydukes, and buy wizard robes, and get your own wand. Twilight doesn’t have anything like that, unless you want to buy golden contacts so you can be a Cullen.
Harry Potter is so much better because there are not a lot of stories involving wizardry and magic school that are really popular. The whole human girl falls for a vampire and werewolves stories are so outdone. You have True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Underworld, and now Twilight, it’s just getting old. Harry Potter is the only wizardry story that is so huge, and loved by all ages. It’s one of the most amazing stories, and your “god” needs to look over all the facts again because there is no way that Twilight is better than Harry Potter.
PS: I have read the Twilight books, and I’ve watched the movies; I do like them, but nothing can compete with Harry Potter.
Their “god” wasn’t judging which series was better, it was judging which person made the better argument.
I agree with most of your points (and I too prefer HP over Twilight), but just to be fair…
-The reason that not as many Twilight fans dress up as characters is probably that you can’t really dress up as a lot of Twilight characters unless you get colored contacts; really, you can’t even wear fangs. But with HP, you can wear cloaks, witches’ hats, etc. It’s easy to dress up as an HP character.
-Just because HP has its own theme park and Twilight never will doesn’t necessarily mean that HP is better. It’s just that HP takes place in a completely different world than the real world, while most aspects of Twilight’s setting are quite normal. There are lots of books just as good if not better than HP that will also never get their own theme parks, and that’s partly because the settings of those books simply aren’t theme park material; it doesn’t mean that they’re worse books, though.
-I’m tired of people making the “sparkly vampires are so stupid” remark. It’s not like SM decided, “Hey, I’m going to make my vampires sparkle because I think sparkly things are pretty”; it’s that her vampires have skin that is literally like rock, which sparkles in the sunlight.
But other than this, I agree with most of your points.
You’re right! But on the theme park comment. I don’t think it was a statement to prove it was a better book. It was just an argument point that could have been used in the debate for the “time” aspect. The fact that a theme park has been built around the books could have been a very good argument made by the dude as an indication that Harry Potter will truly ride out in time. I actually live in Orlando, FL right down the street to IOA and the amount of tourists we got and still get just because of the recent opening to the park have increased greatly.
I sorta agree…I feel like I’m betraying Twilight, but let’s face it: HP is the best book series to ever exist. JK Rowling is a genius; never in my life could I have thought up such a complex and intriguing plotline. (I like Twilight too, but…HP FTW)
Can this be the same Andrew Sims who runs Twilight Source? I think it is! no wonder they haven’t had any decent postings in days – I don’t think his heart is really in it.
C’mon…First… I have to say that I’m both HP and twilight fan…. I love the books, i love the films (some of them) but there is no comparison between them,.. They are completly different…
One is romantic and the other one is more moral, and more fraternal love…
Besides, Harry Potter is history science early 90{s..is a legend… twilight is goig to be i{m sure…
I think these comments prove it all…
The fact that we are on a Twilight website, and pretty much everyone is siding with HP says a lot for the series .
I am a full out twihard… but, a full out potterhead too… However, I have to side with HP.
I think a lot of people in the Twilight community can agree, that no series will top HP, not even Twilight…
It does help that there were more books, which means more storylines, character development, and movies.
It sucked that Andrew wasn’t really that good at debating, cause if like… I don’t like to use myself… But, I feel I could have represented the HP fandom way better than him… As I’m sure many of the fans could.
Point blank… Sorry twihards… but HP will never compare. Not only because they are two different stories, but HP is the series of a lifetime. The writing was beautiful, the s characters are relate able, and these books allow us to escape into Harry’s world for those hours we are reading it.
The debate wasn’t judged on the best series, it was judged on the best debate.
So yes, lexicon won hands down, but HP will last generations…
Sorry but… once WE had kids (I’m 18), I only see myself giving my kids HP to read .
It’s all so ridiculous. HP is not the best nor is Twilight. They’re both commercialized franchises. It’s a matter of what a person likes. If someone likes chocolate better than vanilla, it doesn’t mean vanilla is a horrible flavor that deserves to be shunned. It’s just a matter of preference.
Live and let live I say. There is plenty of room in this world for both franchises (and I agree with the above comment that I see the HP fandom a bit more aggressive in the Twilight hate). Celebrate both, like both, hate both, whatever, but where one stands as being the best will be with the one viewing it.
I used to read horror/supernatural books when I was a junior higher but finally stopped because I was becoming afraid of my own shadow. (I’m now 42). My last scary movie was the first Nightmare on Elm Street when I was 16. After that, I swore off all similar types of books or movies, not only because I was too afraid but also because I became a Christian and didn’t want to fill my mind with anything that might be demonic in any way. No ghosts, vampires, etc. As I got older and became a mom, Harry Potter came out and I criticized it without reading it and tended to look down on people who let their kids read it. Then 2 1/2 years ago, I discovered The Host, which was surprising because the cover was pretty scary looking to me, and I loved it!!! I gave it to my sister-in-law, my nieces, friends, everyone loved it. I remember seeing the Twilight novels in the supermarket, only three were out, and picking up what I now know was New Moon and reading the dream sequence with her “grandma.” I was curious what it was about because I liked the writing so much in The Host. Yet, as soon as I read the words something like, you see, Edward was a vampire, I closed the book and replaced it on the shelf. There was no way I was going to read a book about vampires!!! Too scary, too demonic. Then my sister in law, who knew my stance on scary books, called me and said, you have to read Twilight, it is not what you think!! It is just as amazing as The Host and not scary at all. I read it ….. and fell in love, with the story, the writing, everything – I am an English Lit Major, and I have read many, many books, and I have quite a few favorites, . . . and Twilight with its sequels quickly joined that list. I got many of my friends addicted to it as well, a couple of them who loved the Harry Potter series. They laughed at my hypocrisy at loving Twilight but not reading the Potter series soooo, I took up the challenge and read the whole series last summer, along with one of my daughters (who love love loves Twilight). No, it was not evil, it was not scary, in fact, it was really really good, the last book being the best in my eyes because it was more emotional. HOWEVER, I still like Twilight better. Harry Potter was great, but it was younger, and less, I don’t know, less emotionally connecting to me. I’m not saying that Twilight IS better, I’m just saying that I LIKE it better. It resonated with me whereas I enjoyed Harry Potter – but then again, I don’t think the two can really be compared. How can they? They are two totally totally different stories except both have the supernatural in them. In fact, I think that probably the people who like Twilight better probably read them before they read Harry Potter, or were older when they first read Harry Potter, like me. But truly, I just wanted to say that we all have different experiences when we read a book or watch a movie. Obviously both franchises have huge followings. That’s because they’re both amazing!! and amazingly different! Sooo, let’s stop comparing the two – like one better if you must, but don’t insult the other.
The Twilight movies are wonderful movies where is the Harry Potter movies are EPIC! I respect people’s opinions, but really its really how you choose to see The Twilight saga. Many see Bella as a whiny brat (believe me I can’t stand her), but I believe people tend to forget Edward is a vampire and of course he stalks and has control issues…he is a mythological creature. Stephenie Meyer at best is a good story teller and terrible writer (where is her editors?). I love the world J.K. Rowling created, but I also know she got a lot of heat from the Christians claiming she was of the devil, witch, etc. I remember people reaching up in their butts and trying to come up with excuses as to why HP sucked. Anything that is popular gets heat. I think Harry Potter will go down history, it has everything from its own spells to tons of beautiful imagination. Twilight won’t last..hello no romances ever do there will be another love story that becomes popular, but look at Romeo and Juliet that story lasted, I think Twilight will too. Its a unique story. I say lets just be respectful to each other and stop saying Twilight sucks or HP sucks (I hear that rarely now though).
In my last sentence it sounds like I’m contradicting myself when I say Twilight won’t last and than it will. I meant to say is it won’t remain numero uno for very long. It will be replaced by another popular romance, however I think its unique to stand the test of time.
Whoa people are writting a lot O.O but i’ve personally never read the harry potter books and i only saw maybe the first 2 movies or so and never really got into it and i love Twilight but i dont think they should be competing its kinda… stupid. people have their opinions of which they like better so it doesnt really matter and I dont think people should be comparing these 2 movies.
You know Leah you are right. People should stop this nonsense because the two really dont go together at all. Im a Harry Potter fan but I don’t think people should be comepting about the two movies. I know that vampires and wizards don’t like each other so why do the fans have to have a war about the two movies. They are just movies. Robert Pattinson was in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and he was a wizard and now a vampire in the Twilight but do we really need this nonsense?
PLEASE REPLY TO THIS BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO HERE YOUR ANSWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think they are both great. But the best movie is Harry Potter and it has the best characters in it also. Hermione, Luna, and Ginny are the best characters but the best character is Harry Potter because he has to deal with a lot of things. He has to deal Draco Malfoy because he turns into a death eater. He also dealed with Voldemort in almost every movie and in the Goblet of Fire he almost got killed by voldemort. He’s about to killed in the Deathly Hallows because he didn’t want his classmates and everyone to killed because of him.
Hermione is the best character because she is the smartest girl and knows harry more than he knows himself. Hermione is a good friend to Harry, because if he didn’t have a friend like Hermione, how would he and Ron pass all their classes.
Ron is also a good friend to Harry because if it wasn’t for Ron, he wouldn’t anything about the ministry of magic and all those stuff. Ron is an intelligent person.
Luna is a very strange girl at first but when u get to know her she knows why people see the strange creatures that no one else knows and she helps Harry alot.
Ginny is a good person because if it wasn’t for harry to rescue her from tom riddle, then tom would be at large again. Ginny is a very sweet girl. She is the only girl in her family.
If it wasn’t for Dumbledore, Harry wouldn’t be doing the stuff he is with Hermione and Ron in the Deathly Hallows. And wouldn’t know that he is a wizard. Dumbledore is like Harry’s father, he takes care of Harry. But Dumbledore died in the Half Blood Prince because of Severus Snape.
And if it wasn’t for Hagrid, Harry would have been traped with aunt and uncle.
Twilight it is just about romance, love and stuff. Bella falls in love with this vampire, Edward Cullen. She wants to be with him all the time because she feels safe around him. Bella feels safe Jacob Black. She wants to turn into a vampire to be with Edward her whole life. I mean who would want to do that?
Twilight sucks ass. Harry Potter is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I like Twilight but they should put more action into it like Harry Potter. Harry Potter has this magical school and all Twilight has is this High School.
I have to say, I got excited when I read the the headline for this video–not because I think the debate has an extreme amount of merit, but because I was nonetheless interested in what each side had to say. I watched the whole thing, but was extremely disappointed by it. I mean no disrespect to those on screen, but this was not a debate. It seemed like a just a fan discussion really.
A structured argument is backed by evidence and well-thought out. They would have done research and cited specific elements from the narratives of each book. Nobody could even agree about when the book release and midnight film release started. Nobody cited evidence from the story itself about why exactly Bella or Hermione is a better role model and/or more relatable to fans.
The fan comments on this board are more well-thought out than anything either had to say really, because these guys just used the surface arguments and didn’t really prove us anything. From another invisible fan of both series, if I based what I thought solely on this “debate”, I’d say both sides lose. =(
I love Harry Potter and Twilight. Harry Potter more than Twilight, but still I love them both. I agree that Andrew didn’t have the best of points, but I found him much more relatable than the girl from Twilight Lexicon. My first impression of her was some psychotic, in-your-face fan girl that found herself superior to all others. She really could have stepped down from her high horse to give some points to Andrew, aka there is no way Twilight’s going to last long. Yes, it has been a cultural phenomenon, but no. The likelihood of one or even two generations remembering Twilight is slim. It’ll be remembered for the amazing numbers it produced in the box office. Harry Potter, though.. Harry Potter’s going to be remembered forever. It’ll be remembered as the series that has touched the lives of millions, connected people together from all around the world, and has made the name “Harry Potter” a household term in the homes of all. <3
Everyone shut up: The first five minutes of Harry Potter speak to everyone as to who is the better heroine Hermione or Bella. Bella would never, EVER had done what Hermione had to do. NEVER.
I didn’t like the girl who did the debate for twilight…she made me dislike Twilight A LOT. I tolerate twilight, but she made me really dislike the series.
i haven’t read harry potter nor do i know the story in its fullest, but i know for a fact it is far more intricate story wise. the characters are also developed with more depth and detail. i know it is better quality and overall better then twilight, but that doesn’t mean i have or ever had a passion for it. that is what i believe it comes down to, though i still think that the fact i first read twilight when i was 14 may have impacted on my perception of it’s overall quality, but at the time i was passionate about it and that is why i still follow the series. if you have or ever had a passion for either book, that is what is going to decide which you prefer, not the quality of the book itself.
You have to admit that HP was much better written. English teachers cringe at Twilight.
Also, I think HP movies were amazing, whereas Twilight movies were just “eh”…
I just like the Twilight storyline better than the HP storyline. It’s really just a personal choice. I don’t understand why there’s this big rivalry between the two. Who cares? We can like both; I know I do!
Also, I think Hermoine is a much better rolemodel for young girls than Bella. She’s smart, intelligent, and independant, whereas Bella is constantly the “damsel in distress” and “can’t live without Edward.” What kind of message does it send to girls when a lovesick young woman is depressed for half a movie because her hot boyfriend dumped her? Not a good one…
I’m 15 and I think Twilight may have sent the wrong message to me… I’ve been pining over my ex since March.
Welcome to HisGoldenEyes.com! We are one of the largest & oldest 'Twilight' fan websites online, launched in 2007. We're here to bring you news, and tons of fun!
AHAHAHAHHAAH in your harry potter faces!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck Twilight. Harry Potter is better than twilight. Twilight sucks ass and is shit. I am a big fan of Harry Potter.

Ohh and Harry Potter made Robert Pattinsons career so suck on that!
I don’t know that I buy this. Maybe HP was the first “big” thing RPattz was in, but “Twilight” did way more for his career than did HP.
Are you serious? Black isn’t a terribly uncommon last name, nor is James a terribly uncommon first name. To suggest that SM copied these names from HP is ridiculous.
In your face you Twilight fans. Twilight sucks ass. I think thats why they Twilight Sucks movie cause it really does suck ass.
The movie is called “Vampires Suck,” not “Twilight Sucks.”

Can’t Twilight fans and HP fans exist in harmony? I love both of the series

That’s true.
I’m Sorry but Harry Potter kicks Twilight’s butt in both books and movies.
I could not agree more with you —
C’mon…First… I have to say that I’m both HP and twilight fan…. I love the books, i love the films (some of them) but there is no comparison between them,.. They are completly different…
One is romantic and the other one is more moral, and more fraternal love…
Besides, Harry Potter is history science early 90{s..is a legend… twilight is goig to be i{m sure…
it{s ridicouluus to compare them…
i hate the way people compare them, theyre TOO DIFFFERENT. i hart them both <3
I think these comments prove it all…
.
.
The fact that we are on a Twilight website, and pretty much everyone is siding with HP says a lot for the series
Sorry but… once WE had kids (I’m 18), I only see myself giving my kids HP to read
i like twilght more than hp.hp doesnt appeal me,i know thier good but im into love story, thats me…..im romantic person…dont judme or attack me.
I love Twilight soo much! But, I do like HP…
I still love Twilight AND HP.
Perfect share.
