Melissa Rosenberg Gets Room To “Expand” Story In ‘Breaking Dawn’

The previous movie adaptations of Stephanie Meyer’s vamp-lit juggernaut have gone pretty much by the book, but with the final novel “Breaking Dawn” being broken into two feature films, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg tells PopcornBiz she’s enjoying a little more leeway to add some fangy flourishes of her own.
“I did actually [get to do that], because we got to fill out the story because we’re doing the next two movies,” said Rosenberg. “So there was room to play and expand on some of the characters that Stephanie introduces. That was a lot of fun.”“It’s a much more grownup movie – It’s an adult story,” the writer said of evolving the franchise beyond its high school origins. “The stakes are raised even higher because it’s not the story of teens. It’s the stories of grownups, so we’re talking about marriage and children and family – and these are pretty grownup things, but sexy.”

not a big fan of her work, and i have a feeling those fillers will be the worse parts of the movies
You know what, I understand thats your opinion and I repect that, however Stephanie Meyer had her hand in ALL of these movies and Melissa Rosenberg has called her on specific details of each movie. So, if the movie sucks its Stephanie Meyers fault. Also Stephanie Meyer is producing this one. Again Stephanie’s to blame if the movies dont turn out like you want.
agree. but fingers crossed until then
Change is not good. They should use the extra time to try and include stuff they would normally leave out, instead of creating things to fill the gaps.
I totally agree here!
The things that aren’t important to the plot line so they end up leaving out are normally some of the best scenes – for example, in Twilight when they left out ‘Blood Typing’. I really hope that if they do end up adding in loads of ‘new’ scenes that they show the family interactions of the Cullen’s and built upon their relationships as I don’t believe they’ve shown enough of this yet.
oh great, give her more room to screw up the movies..she did bad enough when she didn’t have leeway.
Well, I hope the changes aren’t anything bad. I mean, Stephenie is a producer on these movies this time, which means she’ll be even more involved in everything. And Melissa has said in the past that she communicates with Stephenie a lot about the script so there shouldn’t be anything added that Stephenie wouldn’t approve of.
I hope they show more of the old characters like Alice and Jasper and what they do when they leave since they’re not in the book very much. I’d rather see more of that instead of showing more of the new characters.
I think(hope) that it will be okay. I meann all the actor said that the script was pretty good, so.. i’m holding my breath.
Yeah, but it’s not really like the actors can say the script is bad, at least not publicly. Nobody’s going to say anything that would make fewer people go to see the movie; heck, Summit would possibly fire them if they did.
True that.
This was one of my favorite books, soley because they showed a lot more physical interaction and you really understood how much they meant to each other, and how much they would truly give up in order to be a family.
Pretty strange that they are expanding the story with extra stuff.. They are splitting the book in two movie’s because they thought there was to much to tell it wouldn’t look good in just one movie. Well if they would let all the expanding junk out off it it would have worked in one movie.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Why bother making it into two movies if you’re adding unnecessary stuff? Maybe, the stuff she’s adding will actually make it better. Breaking Dawn is honestly one book where it wouldn’t hurt for them to add to the plot line to make it better. The book’s storyline ended up being so anticlimatic. So, if Rosenburg is going to add, she should add where it’s actually needed.
YES!
I think this is great, seems like the past movies she’s cut out a lot of important stuff including the emotional ties Bella has with everyone.
Exactly.
It bothers me that they never really show how much Bella means to Edward, or like the super romantic stuff he says that just makes you swoon & vise versa.
not sure if this is a good thing or bad.
but i just hope it turns out well
Originally I was surprised that they were making the book in to 2 movies. Not be cause of the length of the book, but because of the content. It makes sense to expand because I did not believe there was enough material to make 2 feature length films. Expansion is what she said not changes. There is a difference for those of you who are confused.
There is more than enough material from the book, “Breaking Dawn,” to make two movies. All you have to do is recount the important moments in the book:
First Breaking Dawn movie would include: The engagement, wedding, honeymoon, pregnancy, Jacob (this is a big one all by itself as he is still so protective of Bella), birth of Renesmee, and Bella’s human death.
Second Breaking Dawn Movie: Bella’s transformation and awakening, Renesmee imprinting on Jacob, impending visit from the Volturi, visiting vampires, Bella reconnecting with her dad (Charlie), Bella making plans to keep both Renesmee and Jacob safe from the Volturi, Bella discovering and honing her “gift.”
That’s more than enough for two movies. Don’t you agree?
she is the worst screenwriter ever!! shes messing up the books! she doesnt need to expand anything!! she totally sucks!!
That could be the greatest post I’ve ever laid my eyes on! But again, I have been proven wrong before.
